The springs and the dust cloth tacked to the underside of the seat appear to be original, but the materials are covered with a contemporary show cover. There are three distinct textile layers on the cushion, visible where the material has detached from the rail. The cushion is edged with trim, applied with tacks. Catalogers were unable to examine details of frame construction, which are obscured by the upholstery.  The rail is machine-cut. It is decoratively shaped on all four sides. The c-scroll design of the rail arches up, in a convex curve, towards the knees, and down, into a concave curve, in the center. The exterior surface of each rail is adorned with a machine carved shell, applied to the center of the downward curve. The shells show evidence of repair and reapplication. A symmetrical, incised, foliate design extends from the base of each shell to curve up towards the knee of each leg.  The ottoman has four cabriole legs. Each knee is surmounted by a decorative block shape, with two visible sides of carved, recessed paneling. The block forms a sharp corner just below the upholstery. The legs are ornamented with a carved acanthus leaf, which flows down the concave curve of the cabriole. The convex curve of the leg terminates in a c-scroll. The ottoman is on roller castors, possibly original but origin unknown. The castors are attached by peg in socket. The rollers are cut from wood.
