The back is composed of a crest rail attached to two serpentine arms that meet at the center below the crest. The arms terminate in outward scrolled, rounded handholds and are supported by three baluster-turned spindles that are continuous with the rear legs. Two fiddleback splats are mounted between the spindles. The splats are angled backward from bottom to top. The seat frame is constructed with mortise and tenon joinery. There are supporting rail blocks on the interior surface, one on each front side and two on each rear side. Upholstery on the slip seat has been replaced; the current cover is green leather. The deep skirt has a scalloped profile along the two front edges. The chair has three cabriole legs and one turned leg, which may be a replacement.
