Despard, Jr., to Josh Evans of Winterthur, the piano was previously owned by Despard's father. According to the letter, the piano was originally acquired from the estate of former New York governor, Dewitt Clinton (1769-1828)."},{"label":"Description","value":"Square piano with rounded front corners, a hinged top, and four tapered and reeded legs.  A board secured to the unfolding top opens to give access to the keyboard of 68 keys and the keywell, which has two squares of decorative fretting. The top opens fully to reveal the strings and is supported by posts that can be tucked against the side. The entire case is veneered. The front corners, the keywell, the front rail, and apron feature veneered tablets framed in inlay. Locking mechanisms are visible on the lid and the central front of the keywell. Beneath the keys are three side-hung drawers. The case sits on six legs that are bulb-and-ring-turned with reeded shafts and tapered terminals on castors.
