(58.4 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Flat-top, straight-front, japanned high chest of drawers on turned legs and ball feet made in two sections. The upper case has a projecting cornice. The molding on the front forms a blind, shallow drawer. Below are two short drawers over three wide graduated drawers. Double-bead molding outlines the drawer openings. The upper case is set into the lower case and held in place by a projecting molded lip.  The lower case has a single row of three drawers aligned along their upper edges. The center drawer is shorter and wider than the flanking drawers. Double-bead molding outlines the drawer openings. The front skirt is shaped in double-ogee arches flanking a central astragal arch. Six short, trumpet-and-cup-turned legs support the case; there are four legs at the front and two at the back. Each leg terminates in a ball-and-disc foot. Flat box stretchers are set between the legs and the feet. Along the front and sides, the stretchers are cut in double ogee curves; the rear stretcher is straight.  The entire surface of the piece is japanned in dark brown or black and ornamented with small, low relief, gilt-painted figures on the front surface. Designs include chinoiserie figures and garden ornaments. Each drawer in the upper case has two engraved brass back plates with bail handles and a central escutcheon of the same design as the back plate.
