The desk top is a single board joined to the sides by through dovetails that are visible from the exterior of the case. The left side of the case is made of two butt-joined boards; the rights side is a single board.    The back of the case is three horizontal boards butt joined and nailed into the sides. The case bottom is a single board attached by dovetails to the case sides. An ogee base molding is nailed to the front and sides above the skirt. The skirt has a serpentine center drop with ogee bracket feet. The feet are attached to the case with glue blocks. Pulls, locks and hinges appear to be original.    The slant-front writing surface is built with bread-board construction and an integral quarter round molding at the front and sides. The desk interior is constructed with pigeonholes and drawers flanking a central prospect unit. On each side of the desk, four pigeonholes are arranged side-by-side above two stacked drawers. The pigeonholes are surmounted with serpentine, arched valances. The drawer dividers and partitions are faced with applied mahogany strips. The prospect unit consists of three drawers flanked by document drawers. The top drawer has a shell carving above a recess. The two drawers below continue the recess, creating a single blockfront composition. The document drawers on either side of the prospect have applied half turnings in the form of a column with flame. All of the drawers have solid fronts with full height drawer sides. The divider between the drawers and pigeonholes and the partitions beside the narrow drawers have cock beading.    The lower section of the case has four full-width drawers, graduated in size. The drawer bottoms are a single board, with grain running front to back, and chamfering on the underside at the front and sides. The drawers are constructed with hand-cut dovetails joining the sides to the front and the back. The drawer bottom is let into a groove in the front and nailed to the underside of the back. The bottom drawer rests on the case bottom. The top front rail is set into groove on the case sides. Three drawer dividers separate the drawers. The drawer dividers are set into grooves in the case sides and faced with an integral bead molding. Stops for the top drawer are glued to the top of the upper drawer divider. A full-depth dust board separates the second and third drawers.
