(60 cm), Depth 28.5 (72.4 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Fan-back Windsor rocking armchair, of the type called a \"Boston rocker.\" Seven spindles are tenoned into a machine-cut plank seat with a curved surface. The spindles are tenoned into a shaped, curved crest rail with downward-scrolled ears. The crest rail and curved seat surface are stenciled with designs including floral motifs and a central fruit bowl. The serpentine-curved arms are nailed to the rear stiles and supported on each side with two turned spindles. The arms terminate in scrolled handholds. The turned front and rear legs are grooved on the undersides to support curved rockers, or bends; the bends are reinforced with nails. Four turned box stretchers support the legs; they are reinforced with dowels and wedges. The front and rear legs are painted in contrasting colors to emphasize concave and convex turned design.
