A fall lid opens up into a flat surface on which to write. The desk interior has an upper tier and a lower tier divided by double bead molding. There is a prospect unit at the center of the upper tier consisting of a prospect door with blocking and a shell carving flanked by document drawers with applied half turnings. To either side of the prospect unit are two pigeonholes with serpentine valances above wide drawers with blocked fronts. At the left and right corners of the upper tier are two stacked, narrow drawers the fronts of which are blocked with a shell carving on the top drawer. The lower tier of the desk interior has a wide, open space at the center and drawers at the left and right sides. Each drawer in the desk interior has a single brass knob. Below the desk surface, the case has a blockfront facade with nearly squared corners. The case has four graduated drawers. The uppermost drawer is flanked by lopers, each of which has a single knob. The drawers each have a shaped escutcheon and two bail pulls with back plates of the same design as the escutcheons. The drawer openings have bead molding along the edges. The complex molding along the side and front lower edges of the case follows the profile of the case front. There is a carved shell drop at the center of the case skirt.
