Mary Briggs Bradford was the daughter of Capt. David Bradford and a sixth-generation descendant of William Bradford. The serpentine crest rail terminates in shaped ears and is attached to the rear stiles with pinned mortise and tenon joints. The rear stiles are continuous with the back legs and chamfered on the back edges above the seat rail. The pierced &quot;owl-eye&quot; splat is tenoned into a horizontal rail above the seat. The arms and arm supports are original to the chair. The curved arms terminate in rounded handholds. Turned arm supports are attached to the underside of the arms, the seat, and the upper side stretchers with pinned mortise and tenon joints. The trapezoidal seat was originally rush. In 1975, it was upholstered with fabric. The front corner blocks of the seat are visible. The front Marlborough legs are mortised, tenoned, and pinned to the seat rail. The rear stump legs are chamfered along the front edges and are slightly racked back. According to museum records, the legs may have been cut down slightly. The chair has one front stretcher, one medial stretcher, and four side stretchers. All stretchers are rectangular in shape. The front stretcher has a rounded top edge. The stretchers are mortised, tenoned, and pinned to the legs.
