At that time, a notation made on the back of the picture indicates that the desk was owned by Mr. Irving A. Chapman of Portland, Connecticut. Comparison of this picture with the desk and its label illustrated in Antiques (April 1948, page 282) proves it unquestionably to be the label carried by the desk pictured in this folder. The line of print in the label listing the address of the partnership is pretty well obliterated but \"Price Street\" can be read and the Boston Directory for 1796 lists it as \"Price Street, corner of 7 Back Street.\" JJE (1965). The desk has a serpentine front with four drawers of equal height and width, with the exception of the top drawer that is set within two lopers. The lopers support the unfolding and hinged plank, which is veneered and fitted with a shield-shaped escutcheon. Each drawer is veneered and has two bail pulls flanking a winged escutcheon with a keyhole. The sides of the case have u-shaped bail pulls ornamented by winged escutcheons.
