A gilded eagle-and-ball finial mounted to a plinth crowns the drum head featuring a dial face with Roman numerals, minute and hour hands, and a winding hole enclosed behind the dial door. Fretted, brass side arms flank the inlaid and veneered throat that bares an ??glomis?? panel decorated with a four-point star pattern encased in a foliate border. The door of the pendulum box, which is outlined in a veneer frame, features an ??glomis?? tablet framed by cross banded mahogany borders, depicting the New York State coat of arms. A small knob for the pendulum box door is on the left side. The eagle holds in his beak a ribbon which reads: [E Pluribus Unum]. The ribbon below reads: [S Willard's PATENT]. The iron gear plate behind the door panel bears the original inscription: [N. 10 Made by E.
