(66 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Large cheval looking glass with book-matched figured mahogany veneer on solid mahogany. The glass, likely replaced, is recessed into a frame with applied molding with cove profile. The frame surfaces visible from front are veneered. The right, left, top and bottom frame boards each made from single boards. The frame is constructed using mortise and tenon joints.  The frame back is constructed from four panels, stretcher rails and a stretcher screwed into large framing boards. The frame backing boards are oriented vertically, glued and joined with butt joints. There is a single vertical stretcher rail running the full length of the interior of the frame at the center. Two boards bisect this to create a horizontal stretcher, likely rabbeted.  The framed glass is hung vertically by brass pintle hinges between two large, vertical columns made of solid mahogany and topped with urn-shaped finial with petite flame, rounded at its highest point. The vertical columns are supported by four concave legs, also of solid mahogany, with castors and a thick, solid mahogany horizontal support column across the bottom. The horizontal column has turned molding on either side where it joins the vertical columns. The molding is integral and transitions from half-round turning to cove at sides. There are two rectangular patches evenly and proportionally spaced on horizontal cross column on left and right. These are of undetermined origin and purpose. The column is mortise and tenoned into the side back and set into a base made of three vertically stacked blocks of wood covered by mitered veneer. The varied grain patterns of the three blocks are visible from the bottom, and the outer block on either side has an applied decorative element to simulate a through tenon. The vertical columns are attached at the bottom with a mortise and tenon. The castors are attached to concave legs with one large screw and four smaller screws. There is a thin square piece of mahogany molding between the leg and castors. No makers?ÇÖ marks were located on castors or elsewhere on the looking glass.  In addition to the brass pintle hinges, each column has an adjustable brass candle holder attached to each vertical column with a decorative plate and two screws.
