Four horizontal slats between the stiles, with a gentle convex curve at the top of each splat. Gilding on the base and along the top curve of each slat. The rear stiles attach to the seat rail with mortise and tenon construction and are continuous with the back legs. Two finials ornament the top of the rear stiles and appear to be continuous with the stiles. Two slightly curved arms with flat circular hand-holds are attached to the rear stiles and arm supports with pinned mortise and tenon joints. The trapezoidal rush seat painted black. The two front legs are turned and terminate in pad feet; the left leg is missing its pad. The rear legs are straight and cylindrical. Two stretchers are mounted at each side of the chair; there is one rear stretcher. The two front stretchers have sausage turnings. There is evidence of red paint applied over black paint throughout the piece."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"5/25/2015"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"None found"},{"label":"Materials","value":"Black walnut; Rush"},{"label":"Style","value":["William and Mary"]},{"label":"Basis of Date","value":"Date range based on characteristics of design and construction."},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1680 - D:00 M:00 Y:1720"},{"label":"Place of Origin","value":"Vicinity of Boston, Massachusetts"},{"label":"Other Name","value":"Chairs, arm"},{"label":"Object Type","value":["Chair"]},{"label":"Object Use","value":"Seating furniture"},{"label":"Category","value":"Furniture"},{"label":"Title","value":"Armchair"},{"label":"Date Modified","value":"7/16/2018"}],"description":"Armchair","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/e4653391-55a4-40ce-a0d5-7be9311656e9/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Armchair","height":1200,"width":755,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/e4653391-55a4-40ce-a0d5-7be9311656e9/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/e4653391-55a4-40ce-a0d5-7be9311656e9","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1200,"width":755},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/e4653391-55a4-40ce-a0d5-7be9311656e9/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/e4653391-55a4-40ce-a0d5-7be9311656e9/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/e4653391-55a4-40ce-a0d5-7be9311656e9/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/logo"}
