The same label apparently is affixed to DAPC_1969-0005, a tambour desk. Here, too, only remnants remain. Examining both labels leads to the opinion that another word or name follows \"Tucker\" but it cannot be determined from these remnants. Objects like DAPC_1969-0005 have labels indicating \"Tucker & Griffin\" as partnered furnituremakers. There is little evidence that Elisha Tucker and Asa Griffin were ever partners, save for a few surviving labels. Both were engaged in cabinet-making and maintained their own shops, but a survey of the Boston directories from 1809 to 1830 does not yield definitive evidence of a partnership. The Boston Directories also list a Lyman Tucker, Jr., a turner, living and working in Boston around the same time as Elisha Tucker and Griffin, however, there is no evidence to suggest a partnership between Lyman Tucker and Griffin, nor is there evidence for an association between Elisha and Lyman Tucker."},{"label":"Subjects (AAT)","value":["Tambour desks"]},{"label":"Subjects","value":["Tambour desks"]},{"label":"Description","value":"Federal-style tambour desk composed of an upper, tambour-front case and a lower chest of drawers on legs. The upper case consists of two drawers at the top and a central prospect unit with tambours doors on either side. The drawers are bordered with thin strips of applied molding and decorative inlay with a geometric pattern of evenly spaced dark colored rectangles on lightwood stringing. Both drawers have two knobs each. The central prospect door is framed in diamond patterned inlay and dark wood veneer. The center of the door has lightly dotted stringing around lightwood veneer and a dark wood, vertical oval with vertical graining outlined in lightly dotted stringing. There is a kite shaped keyhole surround on the left side of the door and hinges on the right. Each tambour door has one knob and opens to two stacked drawers, each with a single knob, above three pigeonholes. The tambour doors are flanked by panels inlaid to match the top drawers. The tambour-front case has decorative molding around the base. The bottom case consists of a hinged leaf that opens to create a flat writing surface, two lopers with knobs, and four drawers. The top drawer is set between the lopers, but appears to be the same height as the bottom three drawers, which are of equal length and height. Each drawer is outlined with decorative inlay to match the drawers and side panels of the upper case. All four drawers each have two large, decorated knobs, and one kite shaped keyhole surround. The skirt front is cyma curved and the legs and feet are bracket."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"7/19/2018"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"Label fragments on back unreadable."},{"label":"Materials","value":"Unidentified wood"},{"label":"Style","value":["Federal"]},{"label":"Basis of Date","value":"Date range based on date of Tucker & Griffin partnership."},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1808 - D:00 M:00 Y:1810"},{"label":"Basis of Origin","value":"Elisha Tucker and Asa Griffin were active in Boston, Massachusetts."},{"label":"Place of Origin","value":"Boston, Massachusetts"},{"label":"Basis of Maker Attribution","value":"Labeled by makers.
