(49.8 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Walnut side chair in the Queen Anne style with a solid, vase-shaped splat back, cabriole front legs, and pad feet. The back has a yoke-shaped crest rail. The back is curved for comfort. The rear stiles are joined to the seat rail and are continuous with the back legs. The trapezoidal seat is framed using mortise and tenon construction. Scribe lines are visible at the back left corner of the seat frame. There is evidence of pit-sawing on the inside of the seat rail and seat frame. Corner blocks present at the front corners of the chair and secured into place with screws. The left front corner block appears to be original to the chair, while the right front corner block appears replaced. According to institutional records, the black leather slip seat is original to the chair. Burlap webbing is visible on the underside of the slip seat. The front cabriole legs attach to the seat with pinned mortise and tenon joints. The front right leg is damaged at the knee; the right pad foot is also damaged. The squared back legs are chamfered along the front-facing edges and are racked back at the foot. The legs are reinforced with turned stretchers, assembled in an H-shape and at the rear. The underside of the right side stretcher has a severe split and wood loss.
