Overall red paint treatment prevented catalogers from identifying all wood types. The bentwood back of the chair is tenoned through the saddle-shaped seat. The front surface of the bentwood back is decorated with moldings. The back of the chair originally had seven spindles, of which five remain. Four of these spindles are tenoned through the top of the chair back and secured with wedges. The bamboo-turned legs are tenoned through the seat. The stretchers, assembled in an H-shape, are turned with bulbous centers and incised lines that mimic the appearance of bamboo.    The back is repaired on the front right side with a metal brace. Significant wear and minor tear out on the top of the seat. The underside of the seat has paint losses. Repairs on the bottom of the seat are held together with butterfly joints.
