(29.2 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Pole screen constructed with mahogany. The screen is an oval made from a single board. An adjustable bracket attaches to a rectangular piece of wood on the screen?ÇÖs back surface. The metal backplate is screwed to the rectangular piece of wood with two screws. Two metal rings attach the backplate to the pole and facilitate the screen sliding up and down the pole. The bracket has an additional metal piece that is possibly a tension mechanism for keeping the screen in place when adjusted to the desirable height. The pole is straight and the tip is rounded with a bead, though it may have had a finial at one point. The pole shows signs of wear consistent with the screen being adjusted repeatedly. The pedestal is a single turned piece of wood with additional crude scallops carved at the bottom in between each of the three legs. The pedestal?ÇÖs turned rings have sustained damage during the object?ÇÖs life. The firescreen has three sabre legs attached to the pedestal with sliding dovetails. Two legs are decorated with light colored string inlay which forms a rectangle that is closed at the bottom and open at the top. Two legs are reinforced with metal brackets attached to the underside of the pedestal with modern screws. One leg joint is reinforced with four small nails. All three legs end in square pads.
