(52 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"This Chippendale-style, Colonial Revival armchair features a solid splat back with ornate carving enhanced by stippling that extends across the rear stiles, crest rail, ears, arms, and knees. The chair back is angled with a curved yoke-back crest rail that is tenoned into the side rails. The crest rail features a large carved shell. The shoulders are curved with carved and extended ears. The rear stiles are continuous with the back legs.  The seat is trapezoidal and framed with a slip seat. The front seat rail has another large carved shell. The construction of the seat is obscured by upholstery. The covers are a replaced but the original horse hair padding is present. The upholstery is in poor condition.  The arms are set into a groove in the rear stiles. The arm support is tenoned into the arm and screwed into the seat rail. Both the top side of the arm and the front and outer side of the arm support are carved with foliate designs. The arm has a volute spiral handhold.  The cabriole front legs feature carved knee and knee brackets. The front legs are tenoned into the side rails. The knee brackets are pegged to the front legs. The rear legs are stumps that flare slightly backwards and are continuous with the rear stiles. It is unclear how the rear rail or side rails join to the rear legs. The front feet are ball and claw.
