The case sides of the cradle are constructed of two boards each. The case front, or cradle foot, has an arched top and is attached to the sides with angled dovetails. The case front is attached to the case bottom with nails. The case back extends the length of the cradle hood and is constructed of one horizontal board. Like the case front, the case back is attached to sides with dovetails and nailed to the case bottom. The cradle hood is constructed of three boards. The boards overlap each other and nails. The front of the hood has an arched valence across the top that is attached to the top boards with nails. The valence is nailed to the sides. The hood is then attached to the frame with screws. The case bottom is constructed of one board that is nailed to the case sides. The bottom overhangs the sides to simulate a cove base molding. The two rockers, or bends, are nailed to the case bottom with a series of evenly-distributed nails on the edges. The rocker at the foot of the cradle has a cyma curve ending with a circular ear that functions as a stop. The rocker at the head of the cradle was constructed with ears, but they have broken off. The stretcher between the rockers is attached with double mortise and tenon joints. The case bottom has a red wash on both sides and has worn on the inside. The rocker at the foot of the cradle has been reinforced with a metal bracket and screws.
