The chair is one of a pair. The rectilinear form with flat planar surfaces and the use of mechanized tools to create the pierced geometric decoration date the chair to the late nineteenth or early twentieth century.    The crest rail is square, with rounded corners and a single bead cut along the bottom edge. Four spindles with square profiles and gently chamfered corners are joined to the crest rail and to the splat rail. The splat rail has a square profile, bordered on the top and bottom edge by a double bead. The center of the splat rail has a linear pattern of nine circular holes in the center, flanked on the top and bottom by a line of smaller circular holes. The front corners of the stiles are chamfered from the top of the splat rail to the bottom of the crest rail.    The underside of the trapezoidal seat has a pierced caning rail containing residual caning from the original upholstery treatment. The caning rail is attached to the seat rail with dowels. The replaced seat cover is birch plywood, pierced with the pattern of a five pointed star set in a circle. The plywood seat has been nailed to the seat rail using round headed nails.    The chair has an H-shaped stretcher pattern with square profile stretchers. The front legs are square in section tapering in two directions below the stretchers with pairs of incised lines cut into all four sides at the top of the leg, and immediately above and below the stretcher. Ornamental triangular braces nailed to the underside of the seat rail at the front and side and the corners of the front legs are chamfered from beneath the ornamental bracket to above the stretchers. The rear legs are continuous with the back stiles and are square in profile, tapering from the seat rail. A single ornamental brace is nailed to the side of the leg and to the side seat rails.    The surface of the chair shows sun bleaching.
