Surmounting the hood is a fretwork gallery with ball-and-spire brass finials mounted to fluted plinths. The plinths are located at the center and corners of the gallery. The arched hood has a conforming glass door with a veneer frame outlined in double-string inlay. The left side of the door has a keyhole. Flanking the hood are fluted columns with brass capitals and mounts. Opening the door reveals the square, white enameled dial, which has Roman and Arabic numerals and decorative hour and minute hands. Within the chapter ring is a seconds dial. Inscribed on the dial is: [WARRANTED BY / Wm. Cummens]. Flowers are painted in the spandrels. In the lunette is a painted scene of stormy waters and a ship near a fortress and turrets. The bottom edges of the hood are outlined with cyma-curved molding. Cove molding outlines the front and side edges of the trunk where it meets the hood and the base. Engaged, fluted columns with brass capitals and mounts flank three-quarters of the trunk door. The rectangular door is outlined in light wood banding and has decorative molding around the edges. The front of the base section is framed in light wood banding. Stepped molding outlines the lower front and side edges of the base. The case rests on ogee bracket feet."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"10/17/2018"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"Inscribed on dial: [WARRANTED BY / Wm.
