The chair back has a flat, slightly reclined profile. The crest rail is cut with scrolling, ogee curves and carved with floral motifs; the negative space is filled with star punch work. The back of the crest is chamfered at its peak. Beneath the crest rail, a single wide, horizontal slat is carved in the style of the crest. Leaves are carved into the forward facing surfaces of the rear stiles, which are continuous with the back legs. The stiles are joined to the seat frame with two dowels on each side, reinforced with glue, visible where the joint is loose on the viewer?ÇÖs right side. The stiles each have a finial carved into a bust of a human figure in classical costume. The bust on the viewer?ÇÖs left is male; the bust on the right is female.  The rectangular, plank seat is framed. Screws, in pockets on the underside of the frame, join the rails to the seat. The plank seat fits into a rabbet groove in the rear stiles. The seat is comprised of one board, with a beveled edge on the three facing sides. The front rail is carved in the style of the crest and slat. The chair has four Marlborough legs. The front legs are carved with the same foliate motif visible on the rear stiles. There are two stretchers between the front legs; the top stretcher mirrors the shape of the crest, while the bottom stretcher mirrors the shape of the front seat rail. There are unornamented stretchers between the left legs, right legs, and rear legs.  Unevenly applied layers of dark varnish are flaking and wearing thin on the wood surface.
