Black walnut may have been utilized as a secondary wood. The rectangular chair back and tablet are curved. The tablet has curved notches cut into the center of each short side to follow the shape of moldings that outline the top and bottom edges of the tablet and scroll inward at the ends. Three relief-carved clustered leaves extend from the center of each side, where the scrolls meet, toward the center of the tablet. The center of the tablet has a raised rectangle with concave side edges veneered with figured mahogany. The veneer at both bottom corners appears to be replaced. The tablet is set into the fronts of the rear stiles and stands slightly proud of the stiles. All carving on the tablet is relief carving. The stiles are continuous with the back legs. A carved swag is mounted from the corners where the tablet meets the stiles. The front surface of the swag is reeded with three ribs. Separate carved pieces, each roughly triangular with three leaves that flow into three cyma curves that terminate in scrolls, are mounted below the junctions of the stiles with the swag.    The chair?ÇÖs trapezoidal seat has been reupholstered. The underside of the seat is covered, so the frame of the slip seat could not be examined. The front seat rail is composed of a mahogany facing on a secondary wood. The front edge is molded with two half rounds flanked with beading. There are screw holes in the center of the front and rear seat rails; marks indicate that screws were previously inserted from the underside of the seat. There are corresponding screw holes on the slip seat frame. Ogee-curved corner blocks are screwed and glued into each corner of the seat frame; the blocks appear to be original. Each block has two large flathead screws at either end and a newer screw in the middle.    A single half-round molding flanked with beading extends down the rear stiles, onto the tops of the side seat rails, and over the fronts of the front legs. All four sabre legs are mortise and tenoned to the seat rails.
