This fan-back rocking chair in the style of the ?Ç£Boston rocker?Ç¥ features a tablet that is 5.75 inches at the widest point. The tablet is a slightly concave, flattened compass shape that is flat along its lower edge with two arches cut out. The flat lower edges to the exterior of the arches are higher than the rest of the lower tablet profile. The chair back includes seven spindles that taper from top to bottom. The outermost spindles on the left and right of the chair back are longer than the others and fit into arches cut in the tablet profile. There is a double ring of yellow paint at the top and the bottom of each spindle and a single yellow ring in the middle of the spindle. The center spindle has experienced the most wear, and the grain is now visible underneath the paint and varnish. The chair back stiles are thicker than the spindles and are tenoned through the seat bottom in front of the back spindles. The stiles have a double ring of yellow paint at their tops and a single ring at their middles and bottoms. There is a nail visible just above where the arm connects to the stile on both the right and left stiles. There are patches on the exterior side of the stiles above the arms. There is an irregular semi-circular indent where the arm meets the rear stile, which is likely evidence of an earlier repair. The arms are screwed to the tops of the arm supports, and the right screw is bigger than the left screw. The arms are also screwed into the rear stiles with one screw on the right and two screws on the left. The arm supports are tapered from top to bottom and are thicker than the arm spindle. They are tenoned through the seat and reinforced with nails through the chair sides. The right reinforcing nail is square and hand-wrought, while the left nail is circular and likely machine made. Each arm has one spindle. There is a single painted yellow ring around the center of the arm supports and stiles. The hand rest has scroll carving.  The seat is made of four boards. It is a dramatic ogee scroll profile that is widest in front of the arm support. Traces of a single band of yellow paint line the seat at the sides, and there is a parallel line to the interior of the arm support, spindle, and rear stile. There is potentially a line connecting the exterior and interior yellow lines, but too little paint remains to be certain. Four large screws on the front of the seat re-attach the decorative lower seat lip to the seat body, and this board retains evidence of original dark paint. The rocking chair has two front legs and two back legs, none of which are tenoned through the seat. Each joint between the legs and the seat has been made tighter by inserting textile fragments into the hole. The front two legs feature ring turning of various thicknesses, and this turning has been embellished with yellow paint on the incisions between rings. There are two incised rings on the back legs. Each leg also features a trace of yellow paint just above the rocker bend. The attachments to the bends are reinforced with hand-wrought nails. There are four stretchers: one front stretcher, one rear stretcher, and two side stretchers. The front and rear stretchers are higher than the side stretchers. The front stretcher tapers to the sides and is turned. The rocking chair has two bends which are angled slightly towards the center back. Overall, this rocking chair has been finished with varnish, darker paint, and yellow accent paint. The chair has been grain painted, and this is most noticeable on the tablet. There is evidence of multiple repair campaigns consistent with age. The rear right leg is cracked and has been repaired.
