Objects known to have been made by William Seaver usually are labeled with a paper label or are branded with [W. SEAVER]. However, this object is marked simply [SEAVER], and the V looks like U. If you compare the brand to other chairs branded by Seaver, the V does not take a U shape. According to former DAPC cataloguer, JJE in 1969, the chair could have been made by Hammond Seaver, who was also a Boston chairmaker working at the same time as William. JJE concluded that William Seaver probably was not the maker based on a comparison between this chair and another chair made by William Seaver, concluding that the former exhibits finer craftsmanship than the William Seaver chair."},{"label":"Subjects (AAT)","value":["Windsor chairs","Rocking chairs"]},{"label":"Subjects","value":["Windsor chairs","Rocking chairs"]},{"label":"Bibliography","value":"Advertisement: \"Richard T. The upper part of the sack-back is composed of a bent rod containing seven spindles that are tenoned through the U-shaped arm rail. The arms are knuckled. The lower portion of the sack-back consists of eleven ball spindles, seven of which are continuous from the upper portion of the sack-back. The arm posts are baluster-and-vase turned. The oval-shaped seat is dished with a slight pummel at the front of the plank. Four baluster-and-vase shaped legs extend from the plank. The legs are braced by h-shaped, swelled stretchers. The terminals are bent to make the chair a rocker.
