The chair back is curved, wider at the top than the bottom, and features a carved crest rail. The rear stiles are a single piece of wood each and are joined to the seat rail. The modified compass seat is framed with fixed upholstery. The front seat rail is carved and curved in an overall serpentine shape, with the lower edge of the rail also cut in a serpentine shape that is widest at the center. The front seat rail has facing applied to a secondary wood. The arms are upholstered, hand carved, arc from the handholds to the rear stiles, and are continuous with the front leg. The handholds are carved in an abstracted scroll shape. The chair has two front, cabriole legs and two back, ogee block legs. The front legs feature foliate and scroll carving at the knee, have molded edges that emphasize the leg, and have center carving that ends in a lobe. The front legs extend slightly below the lobe to accommodate castors. The two rear legs have furniture slides applied to their bottoms. The back and sides of the seat frame are veneered on the exterior surface, and the other wood elements have been finished. The chair's upholstery, padding, and webbing are replaced, but the upholstery nails show signs of rust, indicating their age.
