(61 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Empire-style mahogany sofa with decorative brass mounts and replaced modern upholstery. The straight crest rail is composed of a smooth, turned cylinder with an applied ring-turned disc and a central brass rosette mounted to the right end. The turned disc and brass mount are missing from the left end. Below the crest rail are inward-curving C-scroll shoulders with integral downward-facing acanthus leaf carvings emanating from the scrolls. The straight back is upholstered below the rails and meets S-curved arms with outward-scrolling tops at either end of the sofa. The arms are upholstered on both the exterior and interior surfaces and feature large applied round brass floral mounts on the front terminus of the scrolled frame. The front of the frame on both arms is carved with bead molded edges and a bowed profile in the center. This carving continues across the front seat rail, except above the two front legs where there are rectangular veneered panels with detailed bas-relief figural brass mounts. The mount above the left leg depicts a reclining Classical male nude in a natural landscape holding a tilted storage jar in his right hand and an unidentified object in his left hand. The mount over the right leg depicts a mirror image of the left hand scene but with a female nude in place of the male. The veneer border around the rectangular panels is chipped and lacking in places around both mounts. The seat above the rails is padded and upholstered in a modern brown textile with a black geometric motif. The edges of the upholstery throughout the sofa are outlined by brass foliate-motif stringing, except on the back edges of the arms. Two matching upholstered bolsters are placed at either end of the seat near the arms. The sofa is supported by four outward-curving C-shaped legs with flat-sawn faces. The front face and exterior sides of the two front legs feature acanthus leaf relief carving. The rear legs have the same carving but only on the exterior sides. Each leg is attached to the frame with two screws up into the seat rails.
