The rectangular back is racked back at a slight angle just above the seat rail. The crest rail, which tenoned into the rear stiles, has a straight bottom. The top of the crest rail is carved with a pierced serpentine arch that terminates in scrolls on either side. A horizontal slat with partial arches cut along the bottom edge is tenoned into the lower portion of the rear stiles. Four turned half-spindles are mounted between the crest rail and lower slat. The rear stiles are continuous with the back legs. The stiles are squared where they join the crest rail and lower slat, and turned to form tapering columns between the square sections. The stiles are also turned just above the seat rail. The stiles terminate with turned, acorn-shaped finials.    The trapezoidal seat originally had a rush seat. It is now upholstered with a modern needlepoint cover. The front legs have alternating sections of square profile and turned urn shapes. The front legs extend just above the seat frame and are finished on the top with raised, carved discs. The front legs terminate in small bun feet; the two feet differ in size and shape. The back stump legs are raked back. The chair has spindle-turned stretchers at the rear and sides. The front stretcher has a central turned ring flanked by turned spheres.
