According to Evans's American Windsor Chair, pg. 413, note 209, William Dalton was called as a witness along with other craftspersons in a lawsuit between chairmakers Jesse Foster and Josiah Willard, Dalton signed a document attesting to the payment of a receipt. Wide and flat arm rests, which terminate in forward scrolls, are affixed to appear continuous with the bow. A bamboo-turned arm support and a plain arm post brace the arm rest. The shield-shaped seat is dished, with an oval depression and a grooved spindle platform. The front edge of the seat is chamfered. The four legs are not tenoned through the plank. The legs are splayed and bamboo-turned. H-shaped stretchers brace the legs and are bamboo turned. The legs terminate in bends.
