Rectangular shaped back with curved profile. Three horizontal, serpentine-shaped slats are set between the rear stiles. The pierced slats have tear-drop shaped carvings flanking a central, elongated oval carving. The top slat forms the crest rail of the chair, and has curved shoulders. The crest rail is pinned to the stiles. The top slat is rounded at the back, while the two lower slats are flat at the back. The two lower slats are mortised and tenoned to the rear stiles. The middle slat has a slight crack at the back. The rear stiles are joined to the seat rail and continuous with the back legs. The stiles are chamfered along the back edges. The trapezoidal seat is framed. The rush covering the seat is in excellent condition, and most likely replaced. The front corner blocks of the seat are exposed and have rounded edges. The front Marlborough legs of the chair have moldings along the front outer edges. The inside corners of the front legs are chamfered. The front legs are pinned to the corner blocks of the seat. The back stump legs are square and racked back. The inside of the back legs are chamfered. The side stretchers of the chair have quarter round moldings at the top. The rear stretcher is rectangular. The serpentine front stretcher has a rounded top.
