(62.2 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Chippendale-style mahogany corner chair with white and yellow pine as secondary woods. The back is composed of a crest rail attached to two serpentine arms that meet at the center below the crest. The crest rail is one solid board with ogee carved sides and conforms to the curvature of the arms. The arms terminate in outward scrolled, rounded ends and are supported by three turned vertical stiles which are continuous with the rear legs. The stiles are spanned by two pierce-carved splats which are positioned at a ninety-degree angle relative to one another. The splats have a straight profile and are angled backward from bottom to top. Both splats have a flared top section with three oblong cutouts above a heart-shaped cutout in a lower conforming section. The splats are mortise and tenoned into the arms at the top and a shoe on top of the rear seat rails at the bottom. The chair is supported by four Marlborough legs. The legs are joined to four seat rails with mortise and tenon joints. The front rails are each composed of two laminated boards where the interior board is shorter than the exterior board and creates a lip for the slip seat to rest on. The rear seat rails each have a strip of yellow pine nailed to the interior surface for the seat to rest on. The front rails have an integral deep serpentine skirt along the bottom edge. The square slip seat is reupholstered in blue velvet over a white pine frame.
