Hood: The flat top of the hood is finished with cove and ogee moldings along the front and side edges. The arched hood door is also outlined across the top with decorative molding. Below the arch, plain tapered columns with gilded capitals and bases are set on either side of the hood door. The glass door of the hood is cracked.    The arched dial plate is composed of brass, an unknown white metal, and painted metal. The dial plate has two winding holes, an hours hand, a minute hand, seconds dial, and an aperture for the date. Roman and Arabic numerals are painted on the white metal dial plate; fleur de lis are painted between each Roman numeral. A metal plate engraved [Robt Peaslee / BOSTON] is applied in the lower section of the dial plate. Applied brass spandrels in the corners of the dial feature sea monsters, urns, eagles, and serpents. The dial arch contains an inset white metal circle an engraved and painted eagle wearing a crown standing atop the engraved phrase [Tempus Fugit]. A decorative brass ring surrounds the metal circle. Brass spandrels, of similar pattern as those in the dial corners, are applied on either side of the circle. The brass clock movement includes a striking mechanism.    Trunk: Cove moldings separate the hood and the trunk. The trunk door is arched, and features a lock with horizontal aperture and a diamond-shaped lock plate. The half round moldings that outline the edges of the trunk door are nailed into place. Pieces of the molding on the trunk door are missing. The back of the clock is planned and nailed into place.    Base: Cove moldings separate the trunk and the base of the clock; they are nailed on the sides and front of the base. The base sits on two graduated platforms with molded edges.    Finish: The clock has a tortoiseshell finish, consisting of a red base layer over which an opaque black layer has been applied. Much of the black layer has flaked away.
