The serpentine crest rail has a pierced crowned anthemion at the center, two curved pierced slots on each side, leaf-carved ears, and beading along the top front edge. Below the crest rail are two matching horizontal slats. The rear stiles are molded on the front with rounded bead edges on the back. The molding stops above the seat, which has a trapezoidal seat with a serpentine front profile. The seat is upholstered over the rails and secured with upholstery tacks. The back legs are continuous with the rear stiles and cant backward. The Marlborough legs are braced by box-stretchers with the front stretcher slightly recessed and the back stretcher positioned just a bit higher than the other three stretchers. The rails are joined to the posts and front leg extensions with rectangular tenons. The exposed back rail is narrowly chamfered at the bottom outside edge. Tool marks appear on the inside faces of the side and front rails. The inside forward corners of the legs are chamfered, top to bottom and the outside forward corners are chamfered below the side stretchers. The stretchers are tenoned into the adjacent members at the sides and back; the medial stretcher is dovetailed into the side braces from the front. (Richards and Evans, 113). As of 1997, the four spaced screw or nail holes in the faces of the crest and cross slats extend through to the back surfaces of the slats. The facing strip on the top of the back rail is cracked at both ends, as are several previous upholstery covers that have been drawn over the back rail and nailed to the bottom (indicated by nail holes). Additional nail holes are seen on the bottoms of other rails. There is a split on the left inside corner of the front rail. The left front leg is chipped at the back and the beading is damaged."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"1/19/2019"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"Branded on bottom of back seat rail: [W.
