The square-back is scrolled backward with foliate and grooved carvings from the crest to the arm support. Scrolled carving at the back of the arm post abuts the plush, upholstered arms, which terminate in a dramatic carving of a roaring Griffin's head. The arm supports are carved with feathers, leafage, and scrolls. The continuous stiles scroll forward at the front of the chair. The front rail is scroll-curved and turned.  The chair sits on a curule base with applied floral carvings on the sides. The legs are grooved and decorated with scroll carving. The terminals are scrolled with an acanthus leaf design.
