There is documentation verifying Lothrop bought gilt balls from John Doggett. Lothrop completed innumerable transactions with Doggett throughout his career. The dressing table consists of a table on which sits a small case with a single drawer. The front edge of the tabletop is bowed and the and side edges are curved, with squared notches above the front legs. The edges of the top are scotia molded and overhang the apron. Small gilded balls follow the outline of the top and hang below its overhanging edges. The apron follows the profile of the top. Small gilded balls are applied in a line down the front surface of each front leg. The table's four therm legs terminate in therm feet. A small case that mimics the shape of the tabletop is centered along the back of the table. The edges of the top and bottom of the small case are scotia molded. There is a single drawer at the center front of the small case with a single knob at the center. The dressing table has been subject to several painting campaigns. Photographs submitted to DAPC show that the top of the table and the top of the case have been painted a dark color, marbled (about 1963, according to Montgomery), and white (about 2010)."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"12/11/2018"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"Printed, paper label underneath drawer: [LOOKING GLASSES & BURNISH / GILDING. / STILLMAN LOTHROP / No. 29 COURT STREET, / RESPECTFULLY INFORMS HIS FRIENDS AND THE PUBLICK THAT HE / HAS ON HAND A HANDSOME ASSORTMENT OF / LOOKING GLASSES, / Framed in the newest and most elegant style that has ever been invented & his work is executed by the best workmen, and / completely finished in every part, and is warranyed to bear the strictest examination.
