(33.7 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Mahogany fire screen consisting of a shield-shaped frame surrounding a needlepoint panel on a pole stand. The turned and tapered pole is supported by three exaggerated cabriole legs with snake feet. The legs have flat-sawn sides and rounded top edges and are attached to the cylindrical pole base with nails through the top and bottom. The pole has ring turnings and an urn-shape near the base leading up to a smooth tapered cylinder and additional ring turnings. The upper two-thirds of the pole is a thin, smooth-turned cylinder topped with an integral acorn finial.  The shield-shaped frame around the screen is constructed with three sections of mahogany molding with mitered ends joined by L-shaped strips of wood inserted in the corners. The back of the screen is covered with a backing board covered in green wool baize which is screwed into the back of the frame. Two brass braces encircle the pole and attach to the frame backing near the top and bottom with screws. The lower brace has a knob on the front that allows the brace to be loosened or tightened and the screen to be adjusted up or down the pole. The frame contains a hand-made needlepoint panel depicting a rose and two lilies in a vase on a brown and orange background. The wool-on-canvas petit point needlework was executed by Rose Standish Nichols, the original owner of the screen."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"1/31/2017"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and
