Atop the hood is a sarcophagus pediment flanked by urn-and-flame gilt finials on block plinths. Carved acanthus leaves with red paper backing decorate the tympanum above the molded arched cornice. Blind fretwork is below the arch. A glazed tombstone door with an astragal top, flanked by freestanding Corinthian, stop-fluted columns, opens to reveal the clock face. The composite dial is marked with Roman and Arabic numerals. The spandrels and lunette are applied cast ornament, engraved and gilded. A silent-strike dial is in the lunette. A seconds dial is within the chapter ring. Winding holes flank the calendar aperture. A nameplate on the dial is inscribed: [Thos Hughes London]. Cove molding separates the bonnet from the trunk. The trunk door has an astragal top and a shaped escutcheon on the left-hand side. Fluted columns flank the door. Stepped, blockfront molding is the base of the trunk. The blockfront base has a shaped bottom trim with s-curve molding. The clock sits on cabriole legs and intricately carved winged claw-and-ball feet.
