The rectangular chair back curves back slightly. A horizontally-curved crest rail is formed by two plain spindles and a central tablet. The spindles are mortise and tenoned into the rear stiles; the tablet is nailed to the spindles. The lower spindle is flattened at the center to accommodate the sitter. The tablet is rectangular with beveled corners and painted with an image of a grapevine. The grapevine, grapes, and some leaves are painted green along with additional brown leaves and black outlines. Three closely-spaced, horizontal, curved spindles are set mid-way between the bottom of the crest rail and the seat. The spindles are decorated with vertical red-brown striping. The rounded rear stiles are composed of single pieces of wood and are continuous with the rear legs. The tops of the stiles extend past the crest rail. The stiles are chamfered along the front plane, forming a thumbback design. The chamfering ends below the three horizontal spindles. The stiles are decorated with downward facing acanthus leaves at the tops and panels of outlined color below. The rush, compass-shaped seat has a bentwood frame mortise and tenoned to the legs. The edges of the seat are covered with a decorative, bentwood casing nailed to the seat frame. The decorative frame is cracked at the front center, but it is one continuous piece of wood. It is painted with a dark brown band and vertical brown stripes. The rushing may be original and has remnants of brown color. The baluster-turned, tapering front legs have rings turnings at the top and bottom. The front legs are mortise and tenoned to the seat frame, visible from above the seat as triangular shapes at the edges of the rush. The front legs are painted with upward facing acanthus leaves at the tops and decorated with panels of outlined color below and dark paint highlighting the rings. The front legs taper toward the foot and terminate in small ball feet. The cylindrical rear legs are raked backward and taper toward the foot. The rear legs are attached to the seat frame with mortise and tenon joints. Between each front and rear leg there are two straight circular stretchers. Between the rear legs, there is a single curved circular stretcher. Between the front legs are three horizontally-arched stretchers that echo the spindles on the chair back. All of the stretchers are decorated with vertical red-brown stripes with significant paint loss. The base color of the tablet and the entire chair appears to have been yellow or gold with black accented outlines.
