The hood has a cove-molded arched pediment with three gilded urn finials: two at the front corners and one central on a block plinth. Below the arch is gilded fretwork and beveled molding. The glazed, glass door conforms to the astragal shape of the arch. At each of the four corners are three-quarter colonettes. The door opens to reveal a composite brass dial with applied chapter ring, Roman numerals indicating hours and Arabic numerals indicating minutes, applied cast ornament in the spandrels and lunette, and an applied boss in the lunette which is reportedly engraved with Gawen Brown's name. Inside of the chapter ring there is an applied seconds dial as well as a calendar aperture. The dial is inscribed: [1766]. There are sidelights are on the sides of the hood. Beveled and cove molding is along the base of the hood. The hinged trunk door has molding around the edges and as astragal top. The entire case is japanned in red and black with chinoiserie figures. Cavetto molding is along the top of the base. The bottom of the case has stepped molding and a central drop pendant. The clock rests on short bracket feet that have likely been cut down."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"7/20/2018"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"Dial is inscribed: [1766]."},{"label":"Materials","value":"Pine; Unidentified metal; Gilding; Glass"},{"label":"Style","value":["Queen Anne"]},{"label":"Basis of Date","value":"Date of 1766 engraved on boss in lunette, but the case may have been made at a different time."},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1756 - D:00 M:00 Y:1776"},{"label":"Basis of Origin","value":"Boston indicated by engraving."},{"label":"Place of Origin","value":"Boston, Massachusetts"},{"label":"Basis of Maker Attribution","value":"Engraved by Brown.
