A note from a niece in the Cogswell-Dixon family named Caroline Welling Van Deusen, the last owner from the family, traced the history of this high chest. In 1976, the high chest was purchased by an antique dealer named Zeke Liverant from Colchester, Connecticut and then sold to Albert Sack. George and Linda Kaufman purchased the high chest from Sack. The high chest was exhibited at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. in the 1980s. In 1991, Israel Sack, Inc. bought the chest for the collection of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the present owner.
