(64.8 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Empire-style mahogany and mahogany veneer open arm sofa with cherry and maple as secondary woods. The sofa has been reupholstered in an orange silk textile that covers the front and rear surfaces of the back and the tops of the arms. The seat is covered with a tufted square-edge cushion in the same orange silk. The upholstery on the rear surface of the back is velcroed along the bottom and sides to allow access to the inscription on the medial rail inside the back.    The straight back crest rail has a raised center panel with inset mahogany veneer and three carved volutes at either end. On either side of the raised center, the crest rail has a curved top profile and a molded front surface with inscribed lines near the top and bottom edge. The crest rail meets vertical stiles at either end that are continuous with the rear legs and joined to the horizontal arm rails. The stiles have intaglio carved stylized acanthus leaves down the front surface and three graduated lozenges at the bottom where the arm rails begin.  <b>The horizontal arm rails are tenoned into the vertical stiles and curve gently downward before extending out straight over the seat and terminating in blunt ends with intaglio carved acanthus leaves. The tops of the arms are arched and the sides are flat and there is an upholstered pad running along the top of each arm that ends a few inches before the end of the rail. The horizontal arm rails are supported by robust S-curved vertical supports with scrolled ends that span between the side seat rails and the arms. The front surface of the support has a carved acanthus leaf on the bottom half and three stacked lozenges below the bottom edge. The back surface of the support has a carved cornucopia form and three volutes emanating from the scroll at the bottom.    The rectangular seat is framed by four mahogany seat rails. The front and side rails are nailed to cherry rails on the interior and the rear rail is solid mahogany. Two maple medial support rails with scooped tops span between the front and rear rails under the seat. The side rails have inset panels of mahogany veneer running the length of the outer face. The front rail has stylized anthemion carvings in the corners and the center, with inset panels of mahogany veneer in between.    The sofa is supported by two carved Grecian legs in front and two carved sabre legs in the rear. The legs are mortise and tenoned to the seat rails and terminate in brass castors with cuffs. The front legs have round cuffs and the rear legs have square cuffs. The rear legs have carved acanthus leaves extending out the top and down half of the back surface and carved scrolls in the front.
