The settee back is divided into three identical sections, each resembling the back of a wide chair. Each back section has a tablet-shaped crest rail and a single horizontal slat, between which are paired diagonal cross braces that form a diamond in the center of the back. The tablets are painted with grapes and oak leaves. Four rear stiles are separate the three sections and are continuous with the legs. The stiles are turned and chamfered along the front plane, forming a thumbback design. The stiles, horizontal splat, and diagonal cross braces are decorated with red, black, and gilded stripes.    The scroll-shaped arms are connected by a tenon to the turned arm supports. The arm supports are screwed to the seat rail with a single flat-head screw. The arms are screwed to the rear stile with two flat-head screws. The rush seat is supported on two longitudinal stretchers located adjacent to the front and back of the settee. A decorative molding painted with graduated stripes is nailed to the longitudinal stretchers at the front and back, and to the seat rail at the sides.    There are four front and four rear legs. The legs are turned, tapering at the bottom and the top, and painted with red and gilded bands. At the ends of the settee, two side stretchers connect the front and rear legs; single side stretchers connect the inner front and rear legs. Three rear stretchers and three front stretchers connect each pair of legs along the length of the settee. The side and rear stretchers are turned; the front stretchers are bamboo-turned with an angled diamond-shaped tablet in the center that echoes the diamond in the back.
