Surmounting the hood is a broken scroll pediment and cove-molded cornice; the scrolls terminate in rosettes. Posted at the front corners and top center, mounted to molded plinths are three brass ball-and-spire finials. Below the pediment is an astragal-shaped, molded and glazed door flanked by turned columns mounted to plinths at the top and bottom. On the sides are arched sidelights. Inside the door is a composite brass tombstone dial with applied cast ornament in the spandrels and around the strike/silent indicator in the lunette and an applied chapter ring with Roman hour numerals and Arabic minute numerals counted by scrolled and pointed hands. Inside the chapter ring there is a seconds dial, a calendar aperture, and an applied name plaque inscribed by the clock works' maker. The wood of the columns and the door frame is horizontally grained. On the left side of the door is a shaped escutcheon with a keyhole and a locking mechanism. Around the base of the hood is cove, ogee, and quarter-round molding.  The trunk has vibrant horizontal graining with the exception of a segment conforming to the ovolo-shaping of the top of the door. The door is hinged on the right, with a shaped escutcheon on the left with a keyhole and a locking mechanism. Around the base of the trunk is cove and quarter-round molding.  The base is vertically grained with stepped molding along the bottom. The four feet are ogee bracket.  According to DAPC staff (1969), the top scroll is likely not original."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"1/19/2019"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"Name plaque inscribed: [Joseph Pope / BOSTON]."},{"label":"Materials","value":"Maple; Figured maple; White pine; Brass; Glass"},{"label":"Style","value":["Chippendale","Queen Anne"]},{"label":"Basis of Date","value":"Date attribution by DAPC librarians."},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1760 - D:00 M:00 Y:1780"},{"label":"Basis of Origin","value":"Boston indicated by engraving."},{"label":"Place of Origin","value":"Boston, Massachusetts"},{"label":"Basis of Maker Attribution","value":"Inscribed by Pope."},{"label":"Maker","value":["Pope, Joseph, clockmaker and watchmaker, 1748-1826, active about 1769-1826"]},{"label":"Other Name","value":"Long case clock; Grandfather clock; Grandfather's clock; Longcase clock; Tall clock"},{"label":"Object Type","value":["Clock"]},{"label":"Object Use","value":"Household accessories"},{"label":"Category","value":"Furniture"},{"label":"Title","value":"Tall case clock"},{"label":"Date Modified","value":"1/19/2019"}],"description":"Tall case clock","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/a961f43a-b6b0-4d95-91d9-9770db01a18b/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"dapc_1968-2689-001_overall","height":1500,"width":402,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/799acfca-f1b1-4814-b4e3-f4d8745bf469/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/799acfca-f1b1-4814-b4e3-f4d8745bf469","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1500,"width":402},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/a961f43a-b6b0-4d95-91d9-9770db01a18b/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/799acfca-f1b1-4814-b4e3-f4d8745bf469/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}},{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/a961f43a-b6b0-4d95-91d9-9770db01a18b/canvas/_2","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"dapc_1968-2689-002_dial","height":1500,"width":1267,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/aeb30b6c-3c08-479f-a932-b3c1c3aa9ff9/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/aeb30b6c-3c08-479f-a932-b3c1c3aa9ff9","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1500,"width":1267},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/a961f43a-b6b0-4d95-91d9-9770db01a18b/canvas/_2","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/aeb30b6c-3c08-479f-a932-b3c1c3aa9ff9/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/799acfca-f1b1-4814-b4e3-f4d8745bf469/full/300,300/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/logo"}
