A broken scroll pediment surmounts the case with a pierced tympanum, carved rosette scroll terminals, and a central eagle finial perched on a ball. The cornice is bevel-molded, splayed, above dentil molding, above simulated gilded fluting of satinwood inlays in the entablature. Two hinged doors each with a looking glass panel segmented into various shapes by molded muntins: a central octagon, eight squares, and six pentagons. Both doors have keyholes. One the sides of the case are shaped escutcheons with bail pulls. The base of the upper case has applied molding around the perimeter above three side-by-side drawers, each with bead molding. Each of the drawer fronts feature eye-shaped, engraved and painted escutcheons with bail pulls, and framing each of the drawer fronts is lightwood veneer with crossbanding. Below the set of drawers is ogee molding. The lowercase consists of an unfolding writing surface and four graduated drawers. On the outside of the unfolding surface is veneering, dotted inlay in a rectangular tablet with concave corners. In each corner is an inlaid six-point star. Within the rectangular tablet is an oval outline in string inlay. At the top is a circular escutcheon with a keyhole. When opened, the fall-front surface rests on lopers with ring pulls. Inside, the butt hinges and a locking mechanism are visible. There is a central prospect unit consisting of a door with blind fretwork. Around the perimeter of the door is checkered banding. A white knob is on the left side. Atop the door is a drawer with a lightwood veneer frame and a ring pull. Flanking the door are secret compartments disguised by faux book spines marked: [POEMS] and numbered 1-4. On either side of the central prospect unit are pigeonholes with ogee-shaped and veneered valances above drawers, four on two per side. Around each drawer is a frame of lightwood veneer. The four drawers have beaded edges. Each has a central keyhole flanked by bail pulls with circular plates. On the sides of the case are shaped escutcheons with bail pulls. Around the base is decorative molding. The four feet are ogee bracket. Sometime between 1943 and 1977, the top finial was removed from an inlaid plinth decorated with a pointed star."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"1/19/2019"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"Inscription not photographed because the inscribed keyhole cover was allegedly stolen in 1937.
