The rectangular back has a gently curved crest rail with over-the-rail upholstery. The upholstered arms are framed by a horizontal reeded top member that curves downward from the crest rail and a reeded vertical member in front. Turned and reeded urn-shaped arm supports are continuous with the exterior front legs and join to the horizontal member of the arms. The exterior front legs each have an inset panel of figured maple veneer outlined with ebony and lightwood string inlay on the front of the block-form top. All four front legs otherwise match with turned and reeded inverted urn forms that closely mirror the arm supports terminating in turned and tapered feet. The four rear legs are stump form and rake backward. The interior front and rear legs are mortise and tenoned into the seat rails and the seat rails are mortise and tenoned into the exterior legs. There are three curved rectangular wooden braces running front to back between the seat rails underneath the sofa. The sofa has been reupholstered with a red textile and there are brass tacks outlining the front of the front seat rail and along the top of the crest rail and the exterior of the upholstered arms. The original red upholstery has been preserved on the back panel of the sofa and is nailed only along the top so that it can be lifted to examine the interior of the frame. There is heavy sun-bleaching across the top of the original fabric, especially in the corners.
