Surmounting the drum head is a gilded acorn finial mounted to a trapezoidal plinth. The circular head has a hinged glass door and a bezel fixed with a locking mechanism. The dial has Roman numerals and arrow-tip hands to designate hours and minutes. [William Grant / BOSTON] is inscribed on the dial.  The throat has a trapezoidal reverse-painted glass panel framed with gilded molding. The molding is connected to small wooden blocks at the corners of the throat. The panel is painted with a classical design. Brass sidearms flank the throat.  The pendulum box has a rectangular reverse-painted glass panel framed with gilded molding. The molding is connected to small wooden blocks at the corners. The panel is painted with an oculus at the center and a scene of two ships under sail. A foliate design forms an oval around the scene and is set against a painted white ground.
