The back of the chair is made of two vasiform splat backs that meet at a right angle. The pierced and carved splats feature four scrolls. These backs are connected by an arched crest rail that includes the arms of the chair. The first layer of the crest rail is an arched, flattened surface followed by a second layer in the center of the back. The arms of the chair extend from the crest rail and terminate with a scrolled, rounded handhold on each side. They are attached to the rear stiles and the back splats with mortise and tenon joints. The rear stiles that flank the pierced splats are fluted columns that end in bulbous turnings and are continuous with the back three legs. The chair has one cabriole front leg and three tapered, columnar back legs. Acanthus leaf carving extends down the front of the knee of cabriole leg. The front cabriole leg terminates in a claw-and-ball foot. The square slip seat has modern upholstery. Corner blocks attached with dome, cast iron nails. The chair has an obvious buildup of several layers of varnish. There is a patch in the center of the crest rail. There is significant damage and repairs to the left splat. The right corner of the front knee is damaged.
