The bow, affixed to the back of the plank, contains nine bamboo-turned spindles. The subtle s-curved arm rails, terminating in volutes, are fixed to the bow in such a way so as to create an illusion of continuity. The arm supports are prominently s-scrolled. Bamboo-turned arm posts secure the arm rail to the plank. The seat has a saddled contour. The sides of the plank curve inward and flare out to rounded front corners that culminate in a subtle, central pommel. Four three-part bamboo turned legs extend from the plank, connected by H-shaped stretchers. The side stretchers are centrally grooved and swelled. The medial stretcher has soft, double swelling. [S.J. TUCKE] branded under seat. Conflicting documentation complicates the assessment of the chair's condition from its original state. Information provided on the verso side of the DAPC photograph, added by Gary and Martha Ludlow around 1983, states, ?Ç£old black paint cover[s] original buff-colored paint,?Ç¥ yet, an advertisement in the July 1985 volume of Antiques for Lynda D.
