A board hinged to the unfolding top opens to give access to the keyboard and the keywell, which features the maker's stamp: [Chickering / BOSTON]. To the right, the panel is slightly recessed from the rounded corners of the upper case. The top opens fully to reveal the hammers and strings. The piano has an English double action, leather hammers, single-strings for the first 5 notes, and double-strings for the rest. The music shelf supports a bracket of three open squares. Below the keyboard, the bottom rail has decorative molding. The case sits on four legs, each with a ring turnings at top and bottom and a conical taper from top to bottom. The conical sections are shaped with at least ten flat surfaces around the circumference. The terminals have disc turning and spool turning atop thick, circular feet. Suspended from the middle of the frame is a lyre-shaped pedal box. The lyre frame is carved with volutes and supports the two pedals: dampers and a moderator."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"10/9/2018"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"Stamped inside keywell: [Chickering / BOSTON]."},{"label":"Materials","value":"Rosewood; Unidentified metal"},{"label":"Style","value":["Empire"]},{"label":"Basis of Date","value":"Date of 1850 provided by the Smithsonian Museum of American History, 1973."},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1850"},{"label":"Basis of Origin","value":"Boston indicated by stamp."},{"label":"Place of Origin","value":"Boston, Massachusetts"},{"label":"Basis of Maker Attribution","value":"Stamped by maker.
