The hood is surmounted by an arched and molded sarcophagus pediment centering two gilded ball finials on block plinths. Blind fretwork decorates the tympanum and frieze above the glazed arched door, which is flanked by free-standing, turned columns with gilt capitals and bases. Inside the door, the composite brass tombstone dial has an applied chapter ring with Roman hour numerals and Arabic minute numerals designated by hour and minute hands, applied cast brass ornament in the spandrels and lunette, and an engraved boss reading: [Samuel / Bagnall / Boston]. Below the name boss is a strike/no strike mechanism. Engraved fleur-de-lis punctuate the space between hour numerals. Inside the chapter ring there is an applied seconds dial and a calendar aperture.  The top of the case has cove and astragal molding. The hinged door is astragal with squared shoulders and molded edges. A shaped escutcheon is fixed to the left-hand side. The bottom of the case is molded and gives way to the base section.
