The rectangular headboard and footboard are of equal size and mirror one another in construction and decoration. Both are panel framed with a large recessed central panel framed by four rails. A thick rounded-arch crest rail runs on top of the top rail and projects out slightly over the front edge. At the base, a mahogany block above the front foot also projects out in front of the rest of the frame. The projecting ends of the base and crest rail are joined by a free mahogany column with a smooth shaft and gilt bronze mounts around the base and capital. The cast bronze capital has a relief frieze running around the circumference which depicts a pastoral scene with figures and animals in a landscape. The front ends of the base and the crest rail are also mounted with gilt bronze decoration, with a nude Classical female figure on the crest rail and a wreath with garlands on the base.    The headboard and footboard are each supported by two carved feet with castors. Both the front and rear feet have the same general shape, with a ball form base with a carved acanthus-leaf skirt around the top edge surmounted by a mushroom-shaped top with truncated gadrooning. However, only the front feet have decorative carving all the way around while the rear feet are only carved on the exterior side.    The interior side of the headboard and footboard have additional structure for attaching to the bed rails. There are vertical rails behind the front column and at the rear edge, each with two carved vertical notches on the interior face. The front and rear bed rails each have slats projecting from their ends that fit into these slots and connect the headboard to the footboard. The rear bed rail is a plain, narrow rectangular board and is intended to be hidden from view when the bed is placed against a wall. The front rail has tall peaked ends with a scooped center and is veneered with figured mahogany.
